Soltas had three rules for provisioning the Champions’ Guild: count the mouths, count the coin, and never leave the kitchen unattended when Dacius was hungry.
He had, regrettably, forgotten a fourth: never leave an open jar of pickles within reach of the Guild.
By midday, the bread was untouched, the cheese barely cut, and the pickle jar empty. Dacius insisted he had eaten only a few. The cook observed that “a few” was not generally measured by the pound. Soltas wrote more pickles on the next provisions order and wisely declined to investigate.
Fortunately, the rest of us can keep a jar in the pantry without defending it from hungry champions. These flavorful Colorado pickles come from Wendi’s Good Things Market at Bloomstead Farms in Del Norte, Colorado, where small-batch provisions belong on ordinary tables as much as grand ones.
Choose Your Jar
I’m A Big Dill Pickle Spears
Crisp, tangy, garlic-and-dill pickle spears with a proper crunch. Wendi’s lists this variety in a 24 oz jar. Serve beside sandwiches, burgers, picnic plates, and a sturdy loaf of bread—or eat them directly from the jar while insisting you are only checking the seasoning.
Wendi’s Sweet Hot Pickles
Sweetness with a little heat following behind. A lively companion for cheese boards, hearty sandwiches, and anybody who thinks the pantry should contain a little mischief.

Vendor & Provenance
Wendi’s Good Things Market is rooted in Bloomstead Farms in Del Norte, Colorado, with an emphasis on food and household goods chosen for everyday usefulness and care. Wendi’s describes the dill pickle spears as made in small batches in Del Norte.
From the Provisions Shelf
Put the pickles beside a rustic boule loaf, a supper soup, or a generous cheese-and-cracker board. Just remember the Quartermaster’s final advice: if Dacius asks whether you have any pickles, you do not.
