Some meals are planned.

Some meals are rescued.

And some meals begin the old sensible way: with a kettle, a packet from the pantry, and enough soup for everyone at the table.

Kat liked the Cooke Tavern packets because they felt like practical magic. A little broth, a few fresh or pantry add-ins, time over the stove, and suddenly the kitchen smelled like someone had been thinking ahead all day. Dacius approved for simpler reasons: any soup that serves eight people was clearly made by someone who understood reality. Rosie, naturally, wanted to know who made it, what was in it, and whether anyone had tried to hide nonsense in the ingredients.

Cooke Tavern Soups is a family soup company from Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, founded by Mary Ellen Williams and carried forward by the Williams family. Since 2001, they have been making gourmet dry soup mixes with all-natural ingredients and without added salt, preservatives, or MSG. Each mix is made in the United States and designed to become a hearty pot of comfort with a few simple additions like broth, vegetables, cream, pumpkin, sherry, or your choice of protein.

Each packet serves eight, making these soups useful for family dinners, cabin weekends, pantry stocking, cold-weather meals, easy entertaining, and those nights when cooking needs to be warm, filling, and mercifully straightforward.
